Blue Whales

This is probably the last outfit I will make Reid for the summer.
I am going to get busy sewing for baby #2
now that Reid has a nice little wardrobe for summer!

For this outfit, I used Creations by Michie',
pattern #117, the Front Button Romper.
You can get the pattern at www.creationsbymichie.com.

Aren't the little whales so cute?
I had been looking for just the right fabric to use this pattern with,
and I was so excited when I found this!

I just blew up the whale a tiny bit on the copy machine
and traced a whale for my shadow embroidery.

I used Imperial broadcloth for the collar because I wanted it to look nice and crisp.
The "shadow" would have shown more on batiste...

Here is the back!

I think this pattern is adorable and has lots of possibilities.

I might be pushing my luck a bit with Reid's daddy,
but it will make his mommy happy and it makes his Mumsie happy.
He can wear it when daddy is not around! :)

I know Reid will love it. He loves sea animals. He loves ANY "a-muls"!

Happy Sewing!!

Vroom Vroom...

Another quick little Jon Jon using Creations by Michie', pattern # 137!

I thought this fabric was cute for a little boy.

I was going to line the Jon Jon in the same fabric, but I messed up a piece of it,
then when I went back to buy more fabric, it was gone!
So...I lined it in green gingham. I don't love the combination, but it works.

Here is the finished product!
It looks nice and cool for our very hot weather,
and could be worn into the fall.

R is for Reid

I haven't made very many things with Reid's name on them.
I have made some things with just an R though.
The reason is that if Brittany has another boy,
she has another R name picked out for the second little boy!
Of course, it would be nice for more than one child to wear the outfits...

Here is today's R creation...
(once again...Creations by Michie', Pattern #137...which I have about worn out...)

I have a monogram/applique machine,
but I don't even know how to applique with it!!!
I just do it the old fashioned way.
I just drew the R and made a little pattern.

And this one needed a little pocket on the back!

I love this fabric! The colors make me happy!

And you know what else makes me happy?
Our second grandchild will be here one month from today!
Unless he/she decides to surprise us and come early...:)

Yellow for a Baby Girl

I'm going to a baby shower Saturday for my friend's daughter, Diana.
Diana's mom, Pam, and I met at college orientation at A&M!
We were suite mates at orientation and formed a friendship
 that has lasted 37+ years.
Pam lives about an hour and a half away.
We meet half way between our houses once or twice a year for lunch
 and yack nonstop for hours.
We never finish all the topics that we need to cover!!!
Do you have any friends like that?

Pam and I have had very parallel lives.
Our oldest children, both daughters, got married on the same day!
We had not discussed wedding dates, but we weren't at all surprised
that they ended up planning weddings for the same day.
That meant we didn't get to go to each other's daughters weddings,
but it was so typical of how our lives have been.

Diana has an adorable little boy, Grant,
and is expecting a baby girl who will be named Presley.

Here is Presley's present!

And here is what's inside...

The sleeve...

The back...

I know Baby Presley will look sweet in her little smocked gown,
and it made me very happy to make it for her.

I hope you are sewing something that makes YOU happy!

Turtles

I got this fabric at an interesting store in Fredricksburg, Texas a couple of years ago.

I made a little Jon Jon for Reid today out of it.

A very quick and easy project!
Sometimes those are fun!
I hope Reid likes his Tuh-tuls!

Bicycles

What is it about boys and transportation?
For some reason they love cars, trucks, airplanes and trains.
Reid doesn't love bicycles yet, but they look boyish.
I know my days of smocking for him are numbered,
so I'm trying to squeeze in a few more Jon Jons with boyish smocking.

The pattern is Creations by Michie', the Jon Jon, # 137.
The plate is by Lou Anne Lamar and it's called Burt's Bikes.
I've had this plate forever, but I've never made it.

Only about 6 more weeks until grandbaby #2 arrives!
Then I'll have someone new to smock for!
Reid's daddy will probably be happy about that! Ha!

Happy Sewing
and Happy Summer!!!

Birthday Choo Choo

Reid will be two years old on Thursday!
He loves "choo choos" almost as much as he loves airplanes!
We have some wooden Thomas the Tank Engine trains and track at our house,

that belonged to my son, Thomas, who is now 23.

When Reid comes over he always goes straight for the choo choos.
So what is a Mumsie to do, but make her precious boy
a choo choo birthday Jon Jon!?

The pattern is Creations by Michie', pattern #137, the Jon Jon.

The plate is Little Memories, "In Training".
The plate has a teddy bear riding in the middle train car.
I just took out the bear and made a taller train car.
We thought it looked a little more grown up.

The fabric is a light blue chambray.
I thought I would be going out to find some buttons, but voila'!
I had some yellow buttons in my button box that matched pretty well!

Can't wait to see our birthday boy in his choo choo outfit!

A Gift

I remember once when I was reading Jeannie B.'s blog,
Jeannie talked about pretending to open a gift you are about to give someone.
It made me laugh, because I do that too!
I'll bet lots of you do that too.
I thought it might be fun for you to pretend you are opening this gift!

I made this for a special little newborn named Pepper!
Isn't that an adorable happy little name?
I'm mailing this tomorrow.

Have fun opening it! :)

Won't Pepper be precious in her pink?

Airport

Reid stayed with us yesterday for several hours.
When he came over, he was wearing his airplane Jon Jon.
Wayne decided we should take him to see some real airplanes
at a small private airport near us.

They have a second floor window you can look out,
but we couldn't take him any closer to the planes.
He loved seeing the planes land and take off,
and saying the colors of the planes.

Trying to get a closer look...

When we were on our way to the airport,
I told him we were going to see some real airplanes.
He kept looking down at this Jon Jon
and pointing to his airplanes and saying "plane"!
Of course, this made his Mumsie smile! :)

Airplanes

Reid loves airplanes.
He has some seriously good hearing and eyesight.
He notices every single airplane in the sky long before we hear it or see it.
He looks up and points and doesn't take his eyes off the plane until it is out of sight.
Then he says, "Bye bye!" :)

Well, of course, Mumsie had to smock her sweet boy some airplanes!
I used my most frequently used pattern,
Creations by Michie', pattern #137, the Jon Jon.
The fabric is royal blue Imperial microcheck, lined with Imperial broadcloth.

The plate is Joe's Toy Planes,
designed by Laura Jenkins Thompson, for Terry Jane, Inc.

I asked Michie' if she had any plans to make the Jon Jon in toddler sizes,
and good news! She is working on it!

Reid was at our house today, and when he was leaving
I laid the outfit in the seat next to his carseat.
He spotted it and smiled, and wanted to hold it.
I showed him the airplanes and he wouldn't let go of the outfit!!!
His mom said he snuggled it all the way home.
Isn't that the sweetest thing? It just made me want to cry.
Probably only a smocker would understand that...
Or maybe only a smocking grandmother...:)

Happy Sewing!

Dainty Light Blue

Another project finished!
I just love light blue on baby girls.
This dress was made of Imperial batiste.
The pattern is Chery Williams bishop.

The sleeve...

I embroidered little bullion roses along them hemline.

The plate I used is called Lullaby, from Austrailian Smocking and Embroidery #76.
I just changed the flowers, but the waves are the same.
Don't you miss that magazine? I do!

We went for my daughter's 20 week (21 weeks and 2 days!) ultrasound
today, and we got to see the baby waving at us.
Aren't babies just such miracles? Every single one of them!
I wonder if the baby is a girl that will wear this dress?
If the baby is a boy, the dress will wait
for another grandchild or special friend.
I will be equally excited either way!
